Kinrin Lake and the Argerich Music Festival

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to attend the Beppu Argerich Music Festival with my family.
Named after the legendary pianist Martha Argerich, the festival has become one of Japan’s most respected classical music events.
The day after the concert, we visited Kinrin Lake in Yufuin.
I have visited this place many times over the years and always find myself drawn back to it.
The lake is not particularly large, yet it possesses a quiet beauty that leaves a lasting impression.

Light reflected gently on the water.
The air felt calm and unhurried.
Time seemed to move a little more slowly.

There is something about this landscape that captures the subtle beauty of Japan.
Kinrin Lake is also popular with visitors from around the world, and on this occasion many international travelers were enjoying a walk around the shore.

Yet despite its popularity, the atmosphere remains peaceful.
Perhaps it was the lingering memory of the music from the night before, but the scenery felt especially meaningful that day.
Music, like traditional craftsmanship and architecture, carries the stories, culture, and emotions of those who came before us.
The quiet moments spent at Kinrin Lake and the performances we heard in Beppu remain connected in my memory.

Japan's beauty can be found not only in its historic buildings and antiques, but also in places and experiences like these.
