Sunrise at AoAwo Naruto Resort

There is something special about watching the sun rise over the sea.
During my stay at AoAwo Naruto Resort in Tokushima, I had the opportunity to experience one of those quiet moments.

Located on the coast of Naruto, the resort faces the sea, with an open horizon stretching out in front of it.
Early in the morning, before the day truly begins, the sky slowly starts to change.

Deep blue becomes pale.
Soft shades of orange appear along the horizon.
And eventually, the sun rises from the sea, spreading its light across the water.

For a few moments, everything feels remarkably still.

The sound of the waves.
The morning air.
The sunlight reflected on the surface of the sea.
There is no need for anything else.

Naruto is internationally known for its powerful whirlpools, but the sea here has another, much quieter expression in the early morning.
For visitors from overseas, places like this reveal a different side of Japan.
Not temples, shrines, or historic monuments, but simply the beauty of the landscape and the changing light of a new day.

Japan is an island nation, and the sea has always been closely connected to the lives and culture of its people.
Watching the sunrise over the water in Naruto, that relationship feels particularly close.
Travel is often remembered through famous places and important landmarks.

But sometimes, a simple moment — waking early and watching the sun appear over a quiet sea — becomes one of the memories that stays with us the longest.
