ABOUT SHUKONGOSHIN
Shukongoshin, also known as Vajrapani, is a Buddhist guardian deity associated with the protection of Buddhist teachings.
One of Japan‘s most celebrated representations is the National Treasure Shukongoshin statue housed in the Hokkedo Hall of Todaiji Temple in Nara.
The original statue dates to the Nara period (8th century) and is renowned for its dynamic expression, powerful physical presence, and exceptional sculptural artistry.
The statue is traditionally kept hidden from public view and is unveiled only on December 16 each year.
This vintage mask reproduction captures the fierce expression and spiritual authority associated with Shukongoshin.
It is a decorative reproduction, not an original ancient Buddhist sculpture or a National Treasure.
